  • Mahasthangarh is one of the oldest ancient cities of Bangladesh, dating back to 3rd century BC (found in limestone slab with lines written in Prakrit Brahmi script). It's current name – Mahasthangarh – comes from the medieval times which means a place of sanctity (Mahasthan) in Sanskrit. Mahasthangarh is also the former capital of Pundravardhana – the state of Pundra people. Initially, Hinduism was the main religion here but it is assumed that Buddhism came here already before the 3rd century BC.

  • Somapura Mahavihara: This is a heritage site and was the largest monastery in ancient India. This monastery was built in the 8th century AD (approx) and was one of the most important teaching centers in ancient India. A pyramid-shaped stupa can be seen at the center of building along with various terracotta sculptures.
