- Begin at 10:00 AM and head to the Mud Volcano for a half-hour trip.
- Visit the Gobustan National Park, which contains the Petroglyph museum. Petroglyphs are images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, or abrading, as a form of rock art.
Visit the Bibi-Heybat Mosque, a historical mosque in Baku. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a recreation of the mosque with the same name built in the 13th century and includes the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of Muhammad). Today, it serves as the spiritual center for the Muslims of the region and is one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan.
Head to Ateshgah; the fire temple is located 30 km from the center of Baku in the suburb of Surakhany. This territory is known for such unique natural phenomenon as burning natural gas outlets (underground gas coming onto surface contacts oxygen and lights up).
Make your way to Yanar Dagh, the "burning mountain" with its natural gas fire that blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula. Flames jet into the air 3 metres from a thin, porous sandstone layer, which seems like a brilliant sparkling on the mountain surface. The history of Yanar Dagh is shrouded in mystery, but a local legend goes that a shepherd once accidentally lit a fire there and the hill has been burning ever since.
End your tour with a trip to Heydar Aliyev Centre and admire its brilliant architecture.
