Know before you go
  • Echmiadzin meaning 'The Descent of the Only Begotten Son', is the ancient capital of Armenia. As per legend, Jesus Christ himself descended from heaven and chose this spot for a church to be built.

  • Echmiadzin Cathedral is the religious seat of Armenia. This is also the only church in Armenia which has 7 domes inside. Once you walk in, there is a treasury where you can find a great number of relics.

  • Zvartnots Temple, though in ruins, exhibits impressive architecture and also an awe-inspiring museum. Zvartnots or 'Celestial Angels' has a 7th-century cathedral, which was constructed in an aisled tetraconch shape by the order of Catholicos Nerses.

  • Though now in ruins, both the attractions continue to speak about the architectural expertise of the craftsmen in the Armavir Province of Armenia.
